bedroom styling

Our bedrooms are a place for relaxation and comfort, where we can switch off from the world and be.

I like to style my bed each morning because it helps me feel organised and start the day in good spirits with one small task accomplished and looking good.

So today, I’m going to show you two quick and easy ways to style your bed. For the days when you feel formal, and for the days you’re going for a more casual look.

But let’s face it. Those days that start with busy mornings, there is neither time or inclination to make your bed.

So today, I’m going to show you two ways to style your bed that has you covered for every morning. For the days when you feel formal, and for the days you’re going for a more casual look.

  1. Relaxed Bed Styling

  2. Formal Bed Styling

The bed must be made each day but I’m not so fussy about it being super slick. Just relaxed and neat. I like to play around with how I style the pillows and use layers.

RElAXED bed styling

1. Relaxed – Having the bed made but not perfectly with room for movement with the bedding fabric. This style suits linen, cotton, jersey and waffle fabrics for your duvet cover. It’s loose, relaxed and feels lived in.

Here in my guest bedroom, I’ve used a simple and neutral colour palette to add interest is in the layers and texture.

The walls are painted a french wash texture, with the floors are light soft oak timber.

I've then layered with a wool rug, I've used white and natural layers of bedlinen and a rustic timber side table and cane armchair.

I've also added a small artwork to break up the wall space.

The room is simple, relaxed yet layered.

2. Formal - Think a deluxe bed in a hotel with tightly tucked sheets with hospital corners. This style is more structured and the fabric on the bedding is usually silky or dense high count cotton.

To add a little more decorative elements you can style your bed with pillows and throws. I like to keep it simple and have one bolster cushion in front of my pillows.

But to add more interest you can use two-three square cushions in front of your pillows.

A good colour palette can really make or break a room.

I chose this deep forest green bed cover to work with the walnut timber tones for the joinery and white linen valance.
